Emergency Paediatric Care Course

The EPC – Emergency Pediatric Care Course, is an intensive training program for pediatric patient management, which includes theoretical lectures and practical training in thematic stations covering all the skills necessary for managing a pediatric patient, aligned with the challenging conditions of the pre-hospital environment. The training program is aimed at EMTs – ambulance crews, doctors, nurses, as well as those whose field of operation is the management of pediatric patients.
The training focuses on critical paediatric physiology, illnesses, injuries, and interventions to help healthcare professionals provide the best treatment for sick and injured children. The educational activity emphasises the development of «critical thinking» technical skills with the aim of making better decisions for their young patients. The purpose of the EPC is to train all healthcare professionals working in the pre-hospital setting as well as in the A&E department, who support the management of paediatric patients from the moment of an incident, with on-scene management, management during transport, right up to comprehensive handover to the Emergency Department.
The aim of the EPC is to manage paediatric patients in the best possible way, taking into account their specific needs and promoting critical thinking.
The programme's syllabus is determined by a special scientific committee of NAEMT and ACS, combines all the latest scientific data, modifies the curriculum every four years to be adapted to the latest scientific data, publishes a new manual that includes all the updated syllabus, and monitors the implementation of the programme worldwide.
Program Structure
The programme's structure includes lecture-based training and hands-on training at practice stations, which aim for systematic education and skill development based on a specific paediatric trauma management protocol, including the following:
Pathophysiology of the most common critical paediatric emergencies and the development of critical thinking for better and more immediate management.
• Application of the Paediatric Assessment Triangle (PAT), a tool that helps health professionals working in the management of paediatric patients to immediately and effectively assess specific patients, taking into account their particularities.
The 16-hour educational process, through its thematic units, aims to develop knowledge and skills for the following:
The importance of paediatric patient care, taking the family into consideration
• The specificities of communicating with paediatric patients
• The peculiarities in the management of the airway, breathing and oxygenation
• Specific challenges in the management of paediatric cardiological emergencies
• Recognition of child abuse and neglect
• The management of hypovolaemic shock
• The peculiarities of newborn resuscitation.

Tuition fees: €360
Upon payment of the €360 subscription, registration is confirmed and includes: registration for the PHTLS programme, books, equipment, models, remuneration for support staff, and breakfast and lunch.

  • Purpose & Method The training focuses on critical paediatric physiology, diseases, injuries and interventions to help healthcare professionals provide the best possible care for sick and injured children. It emphasises the development of «critical thinking» skills with the aim of making better decisions, taking into account the specific characteristics of paediatric patients. It covers the management of cases from the moment of the incident, through transport, right up to handover to the A&E department.

  • Who is it for: The training program is aimed at paramedics – ambulance crews, doctors, nurses, as well as all healthcare professionals working in the pre-hospital setting, in Emergency Departments, and those whose field of action involves the support and management of paediatric patients.

  • Cost / Tuition Fees 360 € (Payment of the 360 euro subscription confirms registration, and includes: registration for the PHTLS programme, books, equipment, models, assistant staff fees, breakfast, and lunch.).

    • Application of the Paediatric Assessment Triangle (PAT) for the immediate and effective assessment of paediatric patients based on their specific characteristics.

    • Specifics of communicating with paediatric patients

    • The specificities in the management of the airway, breathing, and oxygenation

  • International Recognition & Validity The content of the EPC programme is determined by a special scientific committee of the NAEMT and the ACS (American College of Surgeons). The programme is monitored and implemented worldwide, combining all the latest scientific data.

  • Content Update: The syllabus is modified every four years by the scientific committee, so that it is perfectly adapted to the latest scientific data, while also issuing a new manual that includes all the updated material.

  • Operational Readiness It certifies the ability of health professionals in managing the paediatric patient in the best possible way, promoting critical thinking and covering the entire care chain from the point of incident, management during transport, to complete handover to the Emergency Department (ED).
